We begin with the capital of our province, Zamora. This small city can be easily covered in one day and can even be combined with a visit to another town on the way. On the banks of the Duero River, the city of Zamora has a spectacular castle and cathedral, both in the old part of the city. The visit is completed with the Plaza Mayor, the city walls and El Puente de Piedra, from where you will not only enjoy this beautiful bridge with centuries of history, but also privileged views of the Duero and the surrounding area.

A tourist and student place par excellence, Salamanca is undoubtedly one of the most charming cities, not only in Castilla y León, but in the whole of Spain. A must-visit where you can admire its numerous monuments, which can be found on every corner and in every square of the city: the Cathedrals (the Old and the New), the Casa de las Conchas, the University Building, the Huerto de Calixto y Melibea and, of course, the Main Square.

On the top of a hill, we find this historic town, also known for being the capital of the Denomination of Origin that bears its name.

It is undoubtedly one of the most charming towns in Zamora and here you can admire such emblematic places as the Alcázar, the Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor de Toro or walk along the Paseo del Espolón, where you will find an excellent viewpoint overlooking the Duero valley and its so-called “Roman bridge”. Toro is a city of wine, so wine tourism and gastronomy are other major attractions of this captivating town in Zamora.

Miranda Do Douro

We change country and go to neighbouring Portugal. Also located in the heart of the Arribes del Duero Natural Park, its fame comes from its tradition as a place to buy textiles, furniture and coffee.

But Mirando Do Douro is much more than that, it is a town with a beautiful historic centre, where its fortress stands out and also an ideal place to take a boat trip to explore the Arribes del Duero. The Portuguese gastronomy is another of Miranda’s great attractions, highlighting products such as cod. .

A GASTRONOMIC VISIT

Fuentesauco

This typical Castilian village is especially known for its star product, the chickpeas of Fuentesaúco, which have Protected Geographical Indication.

Located in the valley of the river Guareña, the church of Santa María del Castillo stands out. It is a very good area for tasting its gastronomy, because, apart from chickpeas, it has other renowned products such as asparagus, sausages and cheeses, as well as being part of the Wine Land region.

We go to the neighbouring province of Salamanca and come across this town whose walled enclosure is considered a Historic-Artistic Site.

This charming village in Salamanca is home to monuments such as churches, chapels, palaces, squares, bridges over the river Tormes and a castle. All this has earned Ledesma a place on the exclusive list of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain. In terms of gastronomic products, the town’s most typical product is its famous doughnuts.

AN EXPERIENCE IN CONTACT WITH NATURE

Puebla de Sanabria

This village is a little further away, but if you have time, you should save a whole day to visit it, together with the famous Sanabria Lakes. We are talking about the most charming village in Zamora and the only one in the whole province to be included in the Most Beautiful Villages of Spain.

Its cobbled streets, urban architecture, town hall and castle are more than enough reasons to visit Puebla de Sanabria. And 15 minutes from the village, we also recommend you to visit the Iberian Wolf Interpretation Centre, a very special and interesting place.

Arribes del Duero Natural Park

Located between the border area of Zamora, Salamanca and the Portuguese border, this Natural Park is an almost obligatory visit for all nature lovers, hiking and photography of natural areas.

The impressive canyons carved out by the Duero River, forming drops of more than 200 metres, have given rise to dozens of impressive viewpoints on both sides of the border that are a real delight for nature lovers. There are several well-marked routes to discover all these landscapes in a complete excursion of one or several days.
